Although we recommend that you choose your nappy first, and then the wrap which best suits it, we believe that you cannot underestimate the difference that choosing a good wrap will make to your experience of using real nappies.

A wrap is an outer, waterproof layer, which keeps the contents of the nappy firmly contained. So choosing a wrap which works with your nappy, and which you find easy to use is one of the most important choices you’ll make when buying real nappies.

Wraps need to be bought in specific sizes - unlike with nappies, you won’t find a “one-size”, as the closeness of the fit is the most important factor in a wrap. Therefore you will need to buy two or three sizes of wraps during your baby’s nappy wearing life.

With wraps more than anything, we have been very careful only to stock the products which have passed the most stringent of our criteria during testing, and we’re proud to say that every single one of the wraps we tested has performed well for us, and we have no hesitation in using them. As long as you are using a nappy which is absorbant enough for your baby (or bolstering its absorbancy with a booster), these wraps should all perform to the highest standard.

The choices when buying a wrap aren’t as many (or as bewildering) as they can be with nappies. Most of them have Aplix fastening, which generally allows for the most adjustable fit, with obvious benefits. And most of them are in a PUL (poly-urethane lining) material, although we do also stock the ingenious Tots Bots Fleece wrap - read on to find out more.

In general, a wrap should be bought with the nappy it was built for eg a Cottontail wrap would go best with a Cottontail nappy. However, there are some instances where we don’t stock the wrap because we felt that alternatives work better - check under each nappy for our recommendation.

We recommend that you buy four wraps for each stage - they need changing much less often than nappies, as they can be re-used a few times between washes. With PUL wraps, you can alternate them and allow any moisture to dry off between each use, meaning each one can be used four or five times before it will need washing. If the wrap has become wet, you could also wipe down with a baby wipe before reusing. Soiled wraps will need to be washed though. We do not recommend storing wraps in the pail with your nappies as the moist environment is not great for the PUL fabric - simply pop them in your usual washing basket (having wiped off any excess moisture or mess).  Remember, as with any product which has aplix (velcro) fastenings, to shut them completely before washing to ensure you get the maximum life out of the aplix.
